If repeated often enough over an extended period of time, a “myth” can gain acceptance as “fact.” At that point, it begins to influence how we think, feel, and act.
You have heard it said, “You can accomplish anything you want to if you just try hard enough.” Unfortunately, this is a myth because regardless of how hard you try, you must have some minimal level of ability – and even then, there may be insurmountable circumstances that are simply out of your control.
One of the most significant constraints to success, is the “delusion” that determination and commitment will eventually pay off. That is, the harder you run the further you get. But what if you are on the wrong path or headed the wrong direction?
No matter how hard he tries, the mighty lion will never soar with the eagle… or sparrow …or common housefly.
Each of the next five blogs will discuss a myth that you need to dispel if you want to be successful in the invention/consumer product development industry. Each will be something you recognize that has likely made you “delusional” without realizing it. In the process of examining each myth, you will begin to see the world in a completely unique way as your eyes are opened to success in ways you have probably never considered.
The next blog and the first myth will be on how you view change. Everyone knows and feels the rapid and disruptive presence of change. Most people also see a major hurdle to change. After all, people are naturally resistant to change.
A myth that needs busting.
